TRESOR’s first language is Music but he is also fluent in English, French, and Swahili. His songs reflect a peregrine of life shared by so many on the continent of Africa, but few are able to express their experiences in a way that captures the ear so universally and directly. Orphaned at an early age, he left Goma in the Eastern DRC after finishing high school and headed for Durban in 2007 with the sole purpose of pursuing a professional music career. It was a new world for a small-town boy, having to learn English in a short space of time.
Despite the challenges, TRESOR managed to survive earning a living working both as a car guard by day and security guard by night. In between the two jobs he managed to hustle his way into the local Durban music scene, linking up with local musicians and music makers and quickly making a name for himself.
TRESOR released his debut album, VII in September 2015. The album – which he worked on for seven years – featured collaborations multi-award-winning artists AKA, Beatenberg, Khuli Chana, and The Soil. TRESOR’s Mount Everest (Freddy Verano Remix) music video, a NUMBER ONE airplay hit in Italy and a song that reached number one on the Global Shazam trending list quickly reached over 1,000,000 (1 Million) views online after its release. VII won Best Pop Album at the 2016 South African Music Awards and was also one of the most nominated albums.
TRESOR’s highly awaited sophomore album, The Beautiful Madness was released worldwide on 26 May 2017. The album received prime banner placement on iTunes South Africa, Japan, Italy, Australia, and the USA upon its release.
Venerated for his idiosyncratic musicality and fluid vocals, TRESOR’s new single Remedy, the first single off The Beautiful Madness, has already received a highly positive reception since its release on 21 April 2017.
The name TRESOR is now synonymous with the new Pop sound molded-in Africa.
